Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground chicken
  • 4 tbsp Worcester Sauce
  • 8 oz bella mushrooms
  • 1/2 chopped yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup red wine caberenet
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 orange bell pepper
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 8 oz chicken broth
  • garlic salt, pepper & salt to taste
  • 6 burger buns
  • 6 slices of provolone for the tops of your sandwiches

Instructions

  • In a medium frying pan pour olive oil and let heat while you chopped the yellow onion & mince 2 cloves garlic. Add garlic & onion to pan. While that is sautéing clean & slice the baby Bella mushrooms.
  • Once the onion & garlic is starting to get a little brown, about 2 minutes, add in the mushrooms, then cut up the tbsp of butter & sprinkle pieces over the mushrooms. With a spatula stir the mushrooms into the garlic, onion, olive oil & butter at let it cook down until they start to become soft about 3-5 minutes.
  • Then add 1/4 cup red wine cabernet & keep it at a low boil until the mushrooms absorb the red wine, sprinkling with garlic salt, salt & pepper to taste. Then pour into a bowl & set them aside (( try not to eat them all in the mean time))
  • In the same frying add 1 tbsp olive oil & 2 garlic cloves minced, let garlic start to simmer & then add the 2 lbs ground chicken. Cook down the chicken until there is no pink. Break into pieces but not too small, you want them in a good sized pieces as seen above so that the sandwich holds together well-- or as well as a Sloppy Joe can.
  • On medium heat as the chicken cooks, chop up the bell pepper & once the chicken is cooked all the way threw add in the bell pepper & the mushroom mixture. Mix the pepper, mushrooms & chicken so that it is evenly dispersed.
  • Then sprinkle in the paprika, onion powder, salt & add in Worcester sauce, dijon mustard, tomato paste, ketchup and stir in until well combined, then slowly add in the chicken broth.
  • You want to keep stirring on medium heat & continue to add it in the chicken broth as it absorbs. Keep pouring & stirring until it thickens to where the mixture can stack on top of each other without mmediately falling over. Giving it that great sloppy Joe texture.
  • Then you can start stacking up your Sloppy Joes. Add the Sloppy Joe meat to your favorite toasted bun, top with provolone cheese & enjoy! ** see below for our favorite way to put them together!**

Notes

**Our favorite way to put the Sloppy Joes together is to place the bottom buns on a baking sheet. Add the Sloppy Joe mixture to the top and top with provolone cheese. Then place in oven on high broil for 2 to 3 minutes. Top with the top bun & dig in!
