Copycat Nacho Cheese Dorito Seasoning
I mean raise your hand if you grew up munching on Nacho Cheese Doritos?? I mean I sure can! Honestly, they were my favorite chips to grab at a birthday party, school fair, pool etc. You get the drill :)
However, now as a parent & adult, I look at the ingredients..... geez.
That is why I created this EASY, SIMPLE & oh so versatile Copy-Cat Nacho Cheese Dorito Seasoning. Dairy Free, Gluten Free & Vegan.
Here are the store bought Doritos Nacho Cheese ingredients
Corn, Vegetable Oil (Corn, Canola, And/or Sunflower Oil), Maltodextrin (Made From Corn), Salt, Cheddar Cheese (Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, Enzymes), Whey, Monosodium Glutamate, Buttermilk, Romano Cheese (Part-skim Cow's Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, Enzymes), Whey Protein Concentrate, Onion Powder, Corn Flour, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Dextrose, Tomato Powder, Lactose, Spices, Artificial Color (Yellow 6, Yellow 5, And Red 40), Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, Sugar, Garlic Powder, Skim Milk, Red And Green Bell Pepper Powder, Disodium Inosinate, And Disodium Guanylate.
As an adult now I realize what those ingredients are & how harmful they can be to our health. As a child? Not so much. That is why I wish more than anything brands that are geared more toward children, would do their best to try to create things without all this yuck! However, we can't control that. All WE can control is what we put into our body, our child's body & that is why I always try to create recipes that are geared toward simple ingredients you can pronounce, healthy alternatives & delicious recipes your family will love!
Now am I saying that I will never touch a Dorito chip again? Oh gosh no! I'm all about the balance. However, it is good to be aware & fuel your body with the things that are going to fuel it the best way possible.
Lets get to the yummy seasoning already right?!
GF, DF & Vegan
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
3 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp dill
1/8 tsp turmeric
All you need is a coffee grinder! They are not expensive if you don't have one. I linked one here from amazon. We use our coffee grinder for our coffee every morning & then easily clean it out for to make seasoning!
1. Place all ingredients above into the coffee grinder: nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, cumin, paprika, chili poser, cayenne, dill & turmeric. Pulse until fully ground & powdered as see above.
2. Then sprinkle on top of your freshly popped popcorn!! Our favorite way is on stove top, then while still hot, sprinkle with the seasoning. Ainsley & I ate the whole bowl during Moana :)
Transfer seasoning to an empty seasoning shaker & ENJOY! Check below for another delicious way to use your seasoning :)
Seriously... oh my goodness yum. This seasoning transformed this steak & I cannot wait to make it again & again. All you need is this seasoning & Worcester sauce. 1 tsp of Copycat Doritos Nacho Cheese Seasoning on each side with 2-3 dashes of Worcester sauce on each side. Let marinate in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Then get to grilling!
